Holiday rentals in Ciutadella de Menorca
With approximately 25,000 inhabitants, Ciutadella is the most western of all the municipalities on the island and was the capital of Menorca until English rule. Nowadays it is a fairy tale-looking city. It is a pleasure for visitors as they transport themselves to sensations and ambiances from past centuries, wandering the old town through extremely narrow-stoned streets, lightened by the white colour of the humble houses or the shiny stone of the stately homes.

The old town of Ciutadella brings together a great historic interest. Upon first sight, one appreciates the difference with the newer part of the city, which was built after the demolishing of the old walls that, up until last century, surrounded Ciutadella. Nowadays known as Contramurada, the large promenade that borders the old town outlines the perimeter of the old Ciutadella. The palaces of the old nobility now find their raison d’être in the traditional festivities of Sant Joan, with the coats of arms of their families displayed on the facades. Built in marés stone, these buildings are a spectacle in themselves, and some of them can be visited.
Its small and modest marina is at the bottom of the city. There are restaurants to try the famous lobster caldereta, among other typical island meals on the promenade that surrounds the marina.
